Petrol and diesel prices see third monthly fall

By October 21, 2024No Comments

Petrol and diesel prices have decreased for the third month in a row, the latest AA Ireland fuel survey shows.

Petrol dropped by two cents to €1.72 per litre in October, while diesel prices also dropped by a cent to an average of €1.66 per litre.

AA noted that crude oil prices are fluctuating daily at around $74 per barrel.

Today’s survey also shows that electric vehicle owners can expect to pay an average of €808.64 per year to cover an average of 17,000 km a year, which is a reduction of about €49 a year this month.

Jennifer Kilduff, Head of Marketing & PR for the AA (Ireland), said the EV driver is better off this month as a result of the standard 24 hour rates decreasing with energy provider Energia.

“We also know that Electric Ireland is reducing their rates from November 1, so rates will only continue to get better for EV drivers over the next few months,” she said.

She also said that shopping around and planning fuel refills can save the motorist some money.

“Motorists can enhance fuel efficiency by reducing speed and regularly maintaining and servicing their vehicles according to the manufacturer’s recommended guidelines. This not only boosts fuel economy but also improves overall vehicle safety and performance,” she added.
